67 Designs in a Jeep

Customer of 67 Designs since: February 2018.

Inspiration for buying his Jeep: Alex and his wife used to be more into hiking and canoeing (especially in the northern Minnesota Boundary Waters), but they wanted a more inclusive hobby once they had their daughter. When they got the 2015 Jeep, they decided to make a lot of modifications so that their daughter could come along on all the trips!

First adventure with vehicle: May 2017. Alex and his wife headed out to Overland Expo West for the show and then to Utah. In Utah, Alex went to Canyonlands National Park and the Valley of the Gods (a hidden gem). They also made it to the Northern rim of the Grand Canyon, where contrary to popular belief, there are a lot of trees and green grass. Overall, the trip was about 3 weeks!

Most recent adventure/COVID-19 adventures: During COVID, Alex and his family have been going on long weekend adventures to the Smokies. The outdoor activities are endless for them—hiking Clingmans dome, swimming the river, traversing the Appalachian Trail and so much more!

Most memorable adventure: May 2018. The Utah trip after Overland Expo West. It was awesome to go from snow in Flagstaff to the heat in Moab. Some highlights of the trip include convoying through Utah with a whole group and experiencing some of the many famous trails in Moab.

Upcoming trips: There are many more Smokies weekends coming up, but Alex hopes to also head out to the Telluride/Ouray/Silverton area soon!

Dream trip: His dream trip would be to ship the Jeep to Australia and New Zealand. He is a big Lord of the Rings fan, so Alex would certainly check out Hobbiton!

Advice for those who are just beginning overlanding: “The Jeep is such a flexible platform, so adapt to things that happen in your life and do not marry yourself too much to the car—look at the mission.”

Caravan of Jeeps overlanding

#1 place he has camped: The North Rim of the Grand Canyon. He has never felt smaller than in that moment and enjoyed hearing the howling wind and looking up at the stars.

Fun fact about: He likes to draw—before he does anything to the Jeep, he draws it by hand and uses a photoshop program to see how it will look!

Jeep club memberships: He is a part of a couple in east Tennessee, such as East Tennessee Overlanders. He does not really consider them Jeep clubs, more just the general overlanding community.

Notes from the writer: Alex is truly an adventurer at heart, which is even evident in his career. He was telling me about the adventure series that his company is doing up to Alaska, so he will be heading there for a bit. He is also actively trying to get his pilot’s license—so cool!
